Something has been bothering you all afternoon.
You’ve thought about calling someone. Not because you need them to fix anything. You just want to hear another voice. Maybe hear them say that it makes sense. That you’re not making too much of it.
You pick up your phone and look at their name.
They’re probably busy. It’s not that big a deal. You can handle it.
You put the phone down.
A little while later, you pick it up again. This time you open the conversation and start typing.
“Hey, are you…”
You stop. Delete it.
By evening, you’ve mostly talked yourself through it.
You never asked.
