“Can you drive me to the airport Saturday?”
“I can’t. I’m working.”
“What time?”
“Until five.”
“My flight’s at six.”
“Yeah. I’m sorry.”
You look at them.
“Okay.”
“I would if I could.”
“No, it’s fine.”
You pick up your phone.
A minute passes.
“Funny how I always manage to help you when you need something.”
They look over.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“No. What did you just say?”
“I said nothing.”
“You’re pissed because I have to work?”
“I’m not pissed.”
“You obviously are.”
You laugh.
“Jesus. Forget I asked.”
They don’t say anything.
You shake your head.
“Good to know who I can count on.”
