You find something you love.
A song. A place. An idea you can’t stop thinking about.
You start telling someone about it. At first, the words come quickly. You tell them what you noticed, what surprised you, why you think it’s so good.
They’re listening.
Then, somewhere in the middle, you hear yourself.
You’re talking a lot.
You slow down.
“Anyway.”
You laugh a little. “It’s probably not that interesting.”
They haven’t said that. They haven’t even looked bored.
But you change the subject anyway.
