It’s your birthday.

A few friends are coming over for dinner. Someone brings a cake. Someone else brings wine.

After everyone eats, you start clearing the table.

“Leave that. It’s your birthday.”

“I’m just putting these in the kitchen.”

You come back and notice someone needs another glass.

“I’ll get it.”

“Sit down.”

“I am.”

You bring the glass, pick up an empty plate, and carry it back to the kitchen.

When you return, everyone is waiting to sing happy birthday.

You laugh. “Okay, okay.”

You sit down.
