Someone says something that hurts you.
You feel it immediately.
“What the hell?”
For a moment, you’re angry. Then you start thinking.
Maybe they didn’t mean it that way. Maybe you’re taking it too personally. They were probably having a bad day.
The anger is still there, but now something else is there too.
You think about what you might have done. Whether you misunderstood. Whether you’re being unfair.
A few minutes ago, you were angry at them.
Now you’re wondering if you have the right to be.
