“What do you want?”
You open your mouth, but nothing comes. Not because you don’t care, and not because you’re trying to be agreeable. You just… don’t know.
They’re waiting.
“It’s up to you.”
You scan through the possibilities. Where do they want to go? What sounds reasonable? What would make things easiest?
By the time you remember to ask yourself what you want, the conversation has already moved on.
“Anything’s fine.”
And in that moment, it really does feel true.
