When the Old Questions Stopped Working

If you’ve read this far, you may be wondering why you should keep going.

That’s a reasonable question. Maybe you’ve read books like this before. Maybe you’ve watched the videos, listened to the podcasts, gone to therapy, meditated, exercised, changed careers, changed relationships, or reinvented yourself more than once. Maybe some of it helped. Maybe a lot of it helped.

And yet, sooner or later, you found yourself standing in front of something familiar. Not the same circumstances. The same pattern.

I know that feeling because that’s exactly what happened to me.

For years, I assumed it meant I hadn’t found the right answer yet. So I kept looking for better explanations, better techniques, better systems, better teachers. Some of them genuinely helped.

But eventually I noticed something I couldn’t ignore. Every time an answer stopped making sense, I asked a different question. I wasn’t collecting answers anymore. I was slowly abandoning questions that no longer took me anywhere.

Looking back, I think that’s what changed my life. Not finding the answer, but learning to recognize when a question had reached its limit.

I don’t know whether this framework is right. I honestly don’t. But I’ve spent more than twenty-five years trying to make sense of my own experience, and this is the first way of seeing it that I haven’t been able to break.

That doesn’t make it true, and it doesn’t mean it will fit your experience. It only means that, for the first time, I stopped feeling like I had to keep starting over.

That’s why this site exists. Not because I think I’ve solved the problem, but because I think I’ve finally found a better set of questions. If they help you see your own experience more clearly, then they’ve done exactly what I hoped they would do.
