You do something embarrassing. Maybe you say something wrong. Maybe you get scared. Maybe you cry when you wish you hadn’t.
Later, someone tells the story at dinner.
“Tell them what you did.”
You don’t want them to.
They tell it anyway.
Everyone laughs.
A few weeks later, someone brings it up again.
“Remember when he…”
They already know the story.
You sit there while they tell it one more time.
