Yesterday someone yelled.
A door slammed. Dinner ended early. Nobody said very much after that.
Today breakfast is on the table. Someone asks if you packed your lunch. Someone reminds you not to be late. Yesterday has disappeared.
Nobody says, “I’m sorry.”
Nobody says, “I shouldn’t have spoken to you that way.”
Nobody says, “I was wrong.”
It happens again another time.
Someone loses their temper. Someone says something that lands hard. Someone promises something and forgets.
The next day everyone carries on as though nothing happened.
