You open the present. It’s not what you wanted.
You try not to show it.
“Well?”
“Thank you.”
Someone is watching your face.
“You don’t like it?”
You don’t know what to say.
“Do you know how much that cost?”
Someone else says how lucky you are. Another child would be thrilled to have it.
You look at the present again.
“It’s nice.”
“Then smile.”
So you do.
