I Know the Answer Until Someone Asks Me

I know the answer until someone asks me.

I can be sitting in a meeting following everything perfectly well. Then someone turns to me and asks what I think, and suddenly my mind goes blank.

It happens with things I know.

Someone asks me a question and I can’t find the word. I’ve prepared for something and then can’t remember half of what I wanted to say.

Sometimes I start talking and hope the answer will come back. Sometimes it does.

Other times I stumble through something I could have explained perfectly well five minutes earlier.

Then later, when nobody is asking anymore, it’s all there again.

That’s the part I don’t understand. I know I know this stuff.

I just don’t always seem to know it when I need to.
