People Say I Don’t Let Them In

People have told me I don’t let them in. I’m never quite sure what they mean.

I talk about things. I tell people what’s going on in my life. I can spend hours talking to someone I’m close to. It’s not like I’m hiding anything.

But apparently there’s something people feel they can’t get to.

Someone asks what’s wrong and I say I’m fine. If I’m having a hard time, I usually deal with it myself. I don’t see the point in talking about something when there’s nothing anyone can do about it.

Sometimes people take that personally. They say I shut them out. That I disappear when things get difficult. That they never know what I’m really feeling.

I don’t know.

I’ve just never been someone who needs to talk about everything.

That’s just how I am.
